Listening
My Question for God
What are the blessings of being a good listener?
A Moment with God
“What have you done?” Joseph demanded. “Don’t you know that a man like me can predict the future?”
Genesis 44:15
Knowledge: Good listening involves asking questions, because the answers provide important information. Joseph wanted to listen to how his brothers answered his question, because their answer would reveal whether their hearts had changed. A good listener is always blessed with more knowledge to make godly decisions and to nurture godly relationships with others.
If you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.
Proverbs 15:32
Maturity: Good listening involves being open to advice. To grow in understanding you need to be willing to accept godly correction when you make mistakes. Listening involves a willingness to hear and learn, not just about others, but also about yourself. Being a good listener brings the blessings of spiritual maturity.
The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking.
Proverbs 15:28
Self-Control: Listening often involves talking less and then choosing your words carefully when you do speak. When you speak less, you encourage others to share more, and you provide a safe environment for them to bare their struggles to you.
Divine Promise
Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.
