My Question for God

If God is good, why does he let people do evil things?

A Moment with God

The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”

Genesis 2:15-17

I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction. In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors. When you arise, O Lord, you will laugh at their silly ideas as a person laughs at dreams in the morning.

Psalm 73:17-20

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

1 Peter 5:8-9

Genuine love requires the freedom to choose. From the beginning, God desired a loving relationship with you, so he gave you this freedom. But with ability to make choices comes the possibility of choosing your own way over God’s way. Your own way always leads to sin, because all people are born with a sinful nature (see Romans 3:23). This breaks God’s heart, but the alternative would have been for him to make us robots, not humans. Evil still exists, and evil people continue to do evil things, but you can choose to do what is right. When you do so, God is pleased, good prevails, and Satan loses ground. Eventually, God will destroy the power of evil for all time. Until that day, you can fight evil by choosing to obey God and do good.
