What is my worth? What is my value to God?

A MOMENT with GOD

God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

You made [people] only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:5

The Lord has declared today that you are his people, his own special treasure, just as he promised, and that you must obey all his commands.

Deuteronomy 26:18

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

Ephesians 1:4-7

Do you get your sense of self-worth from a combination of looks, accomplishments, career, possessions, and social status? This is a precarious way to live. When you age or become ill, if your next performance doesn’t exceed your last, if you lose your job or retire, if you meet with ill fortune and see your assets disappear, or if your friends are shallow and fickle—then you also lose your sense of self-worth. The most secure and lasting place to find worth is in your relationship with God. It is truly a divine moment when you realize just how much God values you! God created you and knew you intimately before you were born. He loved you enough to rescue you from eternal punishment for your sins through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Because of this, you know you have tremendous value and worth in God’s eyes. Because of the magnitude of God’s forgiveness and grace and his love for you, he is worthy of your praise, gratitude, and love in return.
