How should I worship God?

A MOMENT with GOD

David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly: “O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!”

1 Chronicles 29:10-13

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back? For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Romans 11:33-36

We do not think of our world as a worshiping culture, let alone an idolatrous culture, but our behavior suggests otherwise. Consider our weekly gatherings of thousands of frenzied fans observing a ceremony of men dressed in strange garb acting out a violent drama of conquest. Others stay at home and join in by way of a small glowing shrine set up in the family room. Fans of professional football are probably not even aware that their behavior could be described as worship. Human beings were created to worship. To worship is to ascribe ultimate value to an object, person, or God, and then to revere, adore, pay homage to, and obey by ordering the priorities of our lives around whatever it is we worship. The Bible teaches that God alone is worthy of our worship. True worship, then, is the recognition of who God is and of who you are in relation to him. Ultimately, everything you do should be based on what you think of the almighty God and how you worship him. If you aren’t giving honor to God, then you are worshiping someone or something else. More than anything else, worship will connect you with God, your only source of lasting hope and joy.

DIVINE PROMISE

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
