How do I get a better vision of what I should be doing for God?

It’s been said, “Vision is a picture of the future that produces a passion in the present.” If you lack vision, it’s like trying to see underwater without a mask—everything is blurry, nothing makes sense, and you feel impossibly lost. If you want to have purpose, if you want to clearly see your way in life, if you want to be motivated to do something that counts, you need vision—a picture of where you want to be at some point in the future. Having spiritual vision is having God’s picture of your future. How do you capture God’s vision of where he wants you to be and what he created you to accomplish? It’s only when you empty yourself of your own opinions and dreams of the future that God can fill you with his vision. Here are several ways to fill yourself with God’s vision for your life: through the study of his Word, through the conscience he has given you, through the counsel of other believers, and through prayer. Ironically, the only way that many of us can see better with our eyes is to get corrective lenses. To have better spiritual vision, you need the lens of faith—the ability to believe that there is more to life than what you see, that God is at work and has a place for you in his plan. As you learn to see through the lens of faith, God’s vision for you will become clear.
