How can knowledge of romance affect my relationship with God?

Romance is the language of love that fosters intimacy with another person. What a wonderful feeling when someone expresses their affection for you, enjoys your company, and is captivated by you! As you read the Bible, you will discover that God himself is the original romantic. He created the concept of intimate love between husband and wife, and he loves a “happily ever after” story. He also created an even deeper kind of love—the love between Creator and the created. God romances you in a way; he longs to have a deeper relationship with you, to be your God, to captivate you, to give you joy and peace. He wants your relationship with him to continue happily ever after, for all eternity. Romantic love between a husband and a wife is a picture of this deeper love that God desires to share with each person he has created. As you learn to romance your wife, you will see more clearly the way God romances all his people, wooing them into a lifelong, loyal, beautiful relationship with him.
