A MOMENT with GOD

Gideon . . . was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you! . . . Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

Judges 6:11-12, 14-15

The angel of the Lord greeted Gideon by calling him “mighty hero.” Was God talking to the right person? Gideon was hiding from his enemies, and he saw himself as the least in his family. But when God looked at Gideon, he saw the man who would rescue Israel. In the same way, God brings out the best in you, and he sees more in you than you see in yourself. You look at your limitations, but God looks at your potential. He doesn’t put nearly as many limitations on you as you put on yourself. God sees in you what he created you to be. You began developing your spiritual potential when you repented of your sin. When you gave God control of your life, the Holy Spirit came to live in your heart. The Spirit helps you reach the spiritual potential for which God created you—to reflect his holiness and to use your gifts to help others.
