What is true humility?

A MOMENT with GOD

Anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew 18:4

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. . . . You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Philippians 2:3-8

Humility is the honest recognition of your own worth—your worth as God sees you. It is the delicate balance between recognizing your sin and knowing how much God loves and values you. Pride is wrong because it elevates you above others, and often above God himself. But degrading yourself is also unacceptable because it denies the value God placed upon you. He created you in his image and sent his Son to die for you. Jesus did not die for worms but for people he loves very much. Therefore, we have great value in God’s eyes. To see yourself as God sees you is true humility. And true humility is the pathway to discovering how to serve God and other people.
