How can I overcome my reluctance to ask for help?

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

All of us have limitations. We have areas of weakness, we experience feelings of inadequacy, or we lack a particular skill or ability. Sometimes we just don’t know what to do or how to do it. Sometimes a crisis strikes, and we can’t handle it by ourselves. We need help. It goes against our cultural admiration of the strong, independent spirit, but the truth is that no one can really survive alone. That’s why God created us to be in relationship with other people. That means giving and receiving help. We need help to get work done. We need help to restore a relationship. We need help to develop our skills. We need help thinking through a problem. We need help to say “I’m sorry.” God wants to help you, too. He is your ultimate helper, for he is wiser, stronger, and more loving than any person you know. Cultivate the habit of seeking help from God and from others, and offer help to those in need. You will experience a divine moment when God comes to your rescue, or you may pass along a divine moment to others when they see God helping them through you.

DIVINE PROMISE

The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. Psalm 28:7
