Eternal Life

Eternal Life

MY QUESTION for GOD

How should my hope of eternal life affect the way I live now?

A MOMENT with GOD

God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

Mark 8:36-37

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.

1 Corinthians 2:9

King Solomon wrote in the book of Ecclesiastes that God has planted eternity in the human heart. This means that we innately know there is more than just this life. Something we were made for is still missing. Because we are created in God’s image, we have eternal value, and nothing but the eternal God can truly satisfy our longings. He has created us with a restless yearning for the kind of perfect world that can only be found in heaven. He gives us a glimpse of that world through nature, art, and relationships. Someday he will restore earth to the way it was when he first created it, and eternity will be a never-ending exploration of its beauty in a perfect relationship with God. If the rewards of this earthly life were all we had to live for, then a “why bother” attitude might be appropriate. But there are two reasons why this perspective is wrong: First, when you try to obey God, you put yourself in a position to enjoy life the way it is meant to be enjoyed; your relationships are faithful, your life has integrity, and your conscience is clear. Second, this life is not all there is. The Bible is clear that those who trust in Jesus Christ and turn to him for forgiveness receive the promise of eternal life. Your faithfulness in this life may or may not result in material prosperity, but the eternal rewards of heaven will be greater than you could ever imagine.
