How do I accept an apology?

A MOMENT with GOD

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.” But his father said to the servants, “Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.” So the party began.

Luke 15:20-24

When someone who has wronged you apologizes, you might be tempted to punish the person further, to lash out in anger, to make him or her suffer a little more. But in this parable that Jesus told, not only did the Father forgive his son at once, he also called for a party to celebrate this great event—his son’s being restored to his family. True forgiveness is not grudging or sparing but generous, joyful, and healing. When you accept an apology in this way, you will create a divine moment in the other person’s life by showing the same kind of mercy God shows when he forgives you.

DIVINE PROMISE

Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Psalm 32:5
