Is it really that important to apologize when I’ve done something wrong?

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.”

Isaiah 57:15

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

James 5:16

Saying “I’m sorry” for something you have done wrong is one of the most difficult things to do. You have to recognize your fault, face it head-on, and then humble yourself enough to admit it to someone else. A sincere apology is the first step in changing your behavior and committing to do the right thing. Refusing to apologize when you know you’re wrong is a clear sign of pride, which can have devastating effects on your life and relationships. But being willing to apologize demonstrates humility and opens the door to healing and blessing. If you need a breakthrough in your relationship with a coworker, a loved one, or God himself, the practice of admitting when you are wrong will help you reach a new level of trust and respect.

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Blessed are those who fear to do wrong, but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble. Proverbs 28:13-14
