Spiritual Dryness
Spiritual Dryness
MY QUESTIONS for GOD
What do I do when I feel spiritually dry? How do I maintain my enthusiasm for serving God?
A MOMENT with GOD
The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.
Matthew 13:20-21
You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.
Hebrews 3:13
If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.
Matthew 10:42
Scorching temperatures, blazing sun, and days without rain result in drought. Plants wilt, streams dry up, everything is thirsty. We can all relate to feeling parched in the dry heat, longing for a drink of cold water. Our souls can become dry, too, thirsting for something that will truly refresh and satisfy. Seasons of drought come in your spiritual life when you experience the blazing pressures of the world or the heat of temptation. Your desire to be close to God and serve him dries up. Your enthusiasm for leading can dry up too. You’re not growing in your faith, and you’re not sure if you want to. Just as a farmer must take extra care of the fields during a drought, so you must take extra care of your soul during times of spiritual dryness, watering it with God’s Word and reviving it with renewed purpose. Just as God sends the rains to refresh the earth, he also sends divine moments to revive your passion and purpose for him. He alone quenches your spiritual thirst. When you see the chance to refresh your soul, act immediately before the drought causes unnecessary damage to your faith. Often these moments come as opportunities to join others in acts of service. When you give a cup of cold water to someone in need (see Matthew 10:42), your thirst is quenched as well, and your enthusiasm for God is refreshed.
DIVINE PROMISE
THE LORD WILL GUIDE YOU CONTINUALLY, GIVING YOU WATER WHEN YOU ARE DRY AND RESTORING YOUR STRENGTH. YOU WILL BE LIKE A WELL-WATERED GARDEN, LIKE AN EVER-FLOWING SPRING. Isaiah 58:11
