Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverbs 1:7

Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them. . . . Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.

Proverbs 2:3-5

We live in a culture driven by the pursuit of information. Finding information is easy, but what you do with that knowledge is what counts. Simply having knowledge isn’t helpful if you don’t use it for something good. This principle applies especially to leaders who want to go beyond just doing their jobs and want to make an impact for God. You might know a lot about the Bible. You might know the difference between right and wrong. You might even know Bible history and theology. But if you don’t apply this knowledge toward making a positive difference in your life and the lives of others, it goes to waste. The book of Proverbs in the Bible declares that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, meaning that your understanding of information and of the world should first pass through the filter of God’s Word. Since God is omniscient—he has all knowledge—you can respect the accuracy and authority of his Word. You fear the Lord when you respect what he says. Only then will you develop the godly application of your knowledge.

DIVINE PROMISE

[JESUS SAID,] “ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO MY TEACHING AND FOLLOWS IT IS WISE, LIKE A PERSON WHO BUILDS A HOUSE ON SOLID ROCK. THOUGH THE RAIN COMES IN TORRENTS AND THE FLOODWATERS RISE AND THE WINDS BEAT AGAINST THAT HOUSE, IT WON’T COLLAPSE BECAUSE IT IS BUILT ON BEDROCK.”   Matthew 7:24-25
