Deeper Life #44
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
—Psalm 118:8
WITH OUR MINDS, WE NEVER receive a complete knowledge through mere research. Knowledge of God comes through our hearts—the windows of our souls.
During the Boxer uprising in China, a lady I knew learned of the murder of her husband and two of her children. Their bodies were found beheaded and mutilated. After this astounding catastrophe she testified: “I could not pray, have faith, or lay hold of God. But my heart knew Him and no matter how this tragedy seemed to contradict so many things, I rejoiced in Him.” So many people believe in their beliefs, have faith in their faith, and are confident in their confidence. All of this is of no avail. It is our confidence in God that abides, faith in God that remains, and belief in God that lasts.
Hallelujah! Not joy or peace, but God is our God.
Prayer Thought: I worship You, heavenly Father, for You are full of grace and goodness, love and longsuffering.
