We Can’t Fool Our Kids

A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

Luke 6:40

We can’t fool our kids. At home, you and I are the real you and me. “Do as I say, not as I do” won’t cut it. What we do is so powerful that it can destroy everything we say. We had better live out what we say we believe from the Word of God, or our words will act more like poison than fertilizer in the soil of our children’s hearts.

If we don’t model a real, genuine relationship with Jesus Christ, there’s little chance our children will grow up to possess what we lack.

For many reasons, King David is revered by millions today, centuries after he ruled Israel. He gave his children all they needed, except an example they could follow. As we trace the pattern in David’s family, we see David’s children repeating the same mistakes their father made. His serious errors stripped him of the power to restrain his children.

Does this mean we have to be perfect? Of course not. But our children can see the genuineness of who we are in Christ as we trust the Lord each day.
