Investor Or Trader?

On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper.

In the volatile world of commodity futures trading, investors rely on a critical document called the “Commitment of Traders Report.” This document reveals what large commercial corporations are buying (for example, how much wheat General Mills is securing for its cereal production), which gives smaller investors an indication of a particular market’s direction.

Once a huge corporation makes a commitment to buy a commodity like wheat, cotton, or lumber, its action sets a course for the rest of the market. An investment is a long-term proposition that requires careful consideration. And with millions of dollars at stake, companies make such decisions for the long-term only.

If a “Commitment of Christians Report” were issued on your life, what long-term investment decisions would it reveal? Would it show investments of time, talent, and treasure for the kingdom of God? Can others look at your life and get direction for their own?

The church needs long-term investors with commitment, not day-traders who are in the market and then out. God rewards patient commitment in every realm of life.
