A Living Example
A Living Example
The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:9
The Philippian believers were instructed to practice the things they had heard, seen, learned, and received from Paul. The items on that action list included:
• Loving more
• Having greater discernment
• Being sincere and without offense
• Being filled with the fruits of righteousness
• Having conduct worthy of the gospel
• Standing fast in one spirit
• Striving together for the gospel
• Being like-minded, of one accord
• Esteeming others better than themselves
• Working out their own salvation in fear and trembling
• Doing all things without complaining and disputing
• Holding fast the Word of Life
When Paul spoke of the things learned and received, he was talking about careful exhortation. When he spoke of those things heard and seen, he was referring to concrete example. Paul was a living example of the conduct he expected from the Philippians.
