Daily Power #278
Daily Power #278
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matt. 18:20)
For years, Amy wanted me to pray with her every day. It wasn’t that I was opposed to it, I just didn’t do it. I could give you a list of the reasons I used to rationalize my apathetic approach to our shared prayers: She prayed too long. She wanted to pray about things that I’d already prayed about. Besides, I preferred to pray alone.
After years of making excuses, somehow God changed my heart. Instead of my list of reasons for avoiding prayer with my best friend, I asked myself why on earth I wouldn’t pray with her. The list was even longer than my excuses. I wouldn’t pray if I didn’t want to experience God together. Or to see him move in our family’s lives. Or to grow closer to one another. Or to daily depend on our Savior as one. Or to be more vulnerable to temptation. And the list went on and on.
Now I wouldn’t want to miss a day of praying with her. To be clear, we don’t have long, fancy, drawn-out prayer meetings. We just grab hands before I leave for the office and talk to God about whatever is going on.
Consider making prayer with someone else a daily part of your life. If you are married, your spouse is an obvious choice. If you have children, you could always pray with them. It might be a close Christian friend from work or someone from church.
Always pray. Try not to always pray alone.
Power Lift
It’s a privilege to talk with you each day, Lord. Help me to see those opportunities when I can share our conversation with other brothers and sisters in Christ.
