Daily Power #254

Daily Power #254

No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause. (Ps. 25:3)

This date is one weighted with painful images, deep sadness, and recollections of where you were and what you were doing when terrible acts of terrorism struck our nation. Believe it or not, I was in midair on a flight to Chicago when we suddenly made an emergency landing in St. Louis instead.

On that 9/11, it was a Tuesday morning, and most people were going about their lives like they would on any other weekday—going to work, carpooling to school, cleaning the house, meeting with team members, making lunch plans. And then, suddenly and dramatically, our world changed.

On this day I’m reminded that things we assume are permanent can fall down around us. It can happen to nations and, of course, it seems to happen more noticeably on a personal level. We take our health for granted until we get the doctor’s test results back. We assume we’ll grow old with our spouses until the terrible betrayal. We anticipate advancing in our jobs and then overnight get handed a pink slip for no discernable reason.

So much of what we put our hope in on a daily basis is far more fragile than we realize. As believers, we know that the only eternal, bedrock basis for our faith is in God. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He never changes and never gives up on us. No matter what happened, is about to happen, or ever will happen, God is faithful.

Power Lift

Lord, I lift up the many people who may be remembering loved ones and grieving today. Remind them of your presence and the hope we always have in you.
