Daily Power #253

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. (Prov. 17:22)

Years ago I was talking with my son Sam, who was about six at the time. With my kids I often intentionally asked fun, even silly, questions before gradually moving onto more important ones. You know, what’s your favorite animal in the world and why? What’s your favorite kind of ice cream? If you could go anywhere, where would you want to go?

Sam and I were in the middle of one such fun conversation when I shifted it toward the future. “Hey, buddy, what do you want to be when you grow up?”

“I want to be what you are, Dad!”

My heart about burst with love and pride. How amazing that my son already thought about being a pastor. I tried not to show my excitement and said, “So, you want to minister and start a church someday?”

“Well, that’s not exactly what I was thinking,” Sam replied innocently. “I just want to be what you are—the best dad in the world.”

I know, it sounds too much like a Hallmark moment, and it was. As long as I live, I will forever cherish his little face looking so lovingly into mine as he said those words. That small flash in time is with me always.

The longer I live, the more I realize that our best life exists in embracing the small moments. If you look carefully, you might find your own special moment to grasp today.

Seize it. Enjoy it. Embrace it. Thank God for it.

Power Lift

I treasure those precious moments, Lord, when you surprise me with love, joy, and affection. They will sustain me and help me overcome any doubts I may face today.
