Daily Power #234

As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Gal. 6:10)

Before I became a Christian, I used to think doing good meant always being polite to strangers, saying the right thing, and always trying to help those in need. I basically thought it meant knowing what to do in every situation and doing it perfectly. Not just trying to be the best, but coming darn close no matter what you were doing.

Later I learned this is not what serving God and others requires. We’re never going to be perfect in this lifetime. There’s no competition among us as believers. God has gifted each of us uniquely, and when we each give our best, it often looks different for different people.

Doing good simply refers to following the example set by Jesus and living in a way that reflects God’s love, grace, and generosity. It means following the Golden Rule and treating other people the same way you want to be treated. It’s your attitude of compassion, acceptance, and kindness that demonstrates God’s love in action.

There’s no perfect way to get through your day. And the good news is you don’t have to be perfect. You only have to love God with all your heart, mind, and soul. Out of this pursuit of him, you will naturally display God’s love for them.

Power Lift

So often I want to do good works for others but end up pressuring myself to do them perfectly. Today Lord, give me power to love others as I have been loved.
