Daily Power #203
Daily Power #203
But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. (1 Tim. 1:16)
Years ago a mentor told me something that I’ve never forgotten. I was in my midtwenties at the time, disappointed that I wasn’t doing “more” and “bigger” things. I had big dreams but was still doing small things.
That’s when my wise friend told me, “You will very likely overestimate what you can do in the short run. But you will vastly underestimate what God will do through a lifetime of faithfulness.” I’ve come back to the wisdom of his words many times.
Maybe you feel discouraged right now. You would like to do more. Be more. Have more. Maybe the words of my mentor might encourage you.
It’s so easy to be disappointed with where we are in life. But God is still working on you. If you are not where you want to be or doing what you want to do, be encouraged. You really don’t have any idea what God can do when you keep showing up and doing what’s right. God loves when his kids are faithful. When you are faithful with a little, God will bless you with more.
Stay in the game. Do what you know God wants you to do. Don’t give up. Do everything with excellence. Work as if you are working unto the Lord. And over time, God will reward your faithfulness. One day you will be shocked at what God has done through a lifetime of your faithfulness.
Power Lift
I get discouraged, God, when I don’t see the kind of spiritual growth I want in my life. Please give me patience today and help me to remain faithful with all that you have given me.
