He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

Sometimes, it seems like all we do in life is wait. What’s more, whatever it is we’re waiting for is often pretty mundane.

We wait in line at the grocery store. We wait at the doctor’s office. We wait to board our plane at the airport. In traffic, we wait . . . and wait . . . and wait.

Phew! That’s a lot of waiting.

For two thousand years, Christians have been waiting for something infinitely more glorious—the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet one day, the Bible says, all our waiting will be over.

After Jesus had given the apostle John all the visions in the book of Revelation, he declared, “Yes, I am coming soon!” (today’s verse).

What’s It Mean?

Is there a greater promise found in Scripture? As Titus 2:13 says, all believers “look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.”

Our minds race with excitement as we consider Jesus’ second coming and everything that God has revealed to us about heaven. Yet we know we’ve only been given a fleeting peek behind the curtain of eternity—and this makes our imaginations soar.

So we joyfully echo the words of John and say, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”

• Come, Lord Jesus, and transform this sin-stained world.
• Come and wipe away all our tears.
• Come and rid the world of loneliness.
• Come and wipe out doubt, fear, and suffering.
• Come and abolish bigotry, slavery, and all oppression.
• Come and eradicate hatred and murder.
• Come, Prince of Peace, and establish your eternal reign of harmony.
• Come and bring us into the joy of the Father.
• Come and make us shine perfectly beside you.
• Come and let us see your nail scars and touch where the spear pierced your side.
• Come, Crucified and Risen One, and show us your full glory.
• Come so that we may fall down and worship you.
• Come and take us before the throne of God that we may behold his face.
• Come and let us worship you and the Father alongside a chorus of angels forever.
• Come and reveal heavenly pleasures that our earthbound minds cannot fathom.

Yes, Son of God, you are worth the wait. But we long to see you. We long to be home—truly home.

Come, Lord Jesus!
