For Releasing Guilt

GUILT IS NOT ALWAYS BAD. It can be a moral compass that compels people to repent. Believe it or not, the United States Treasury has an official Conscience Fund. Since 1811, it has helped crooks “atone” for their sins. After stealing or cheating on their taxes, people anonymously mail the government cash, money orders, and cashier’s checks—with a confession letter—to clear their guilty consciences.

But when guilt festers, it turns into bad guilt—and bad guilt becomes the devil’s tool. He uses it to hold us hostage for sins that God has already forgiven. Satan will tell us that we’ve made too many mistakes and done the unforgivable because he has a Ph.D. in accusations and lies.

The Bible warns that the devil accuses us before God “day and night” (Revelation 12:10). However, through prayer, we can resist the devil and release our guilt. “As distant as the east is from the west, that is how far [God] has removed our sins from us” (Psalm 103:12, ISV)!

STRENGTH IN THE WORD

Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.

TODAY I DECLARE

I’m forgiven; I’m redeemed; I’m no longer guilty.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

Your Word promises that if I confess my sins, you are faithful and just to forgive my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

So here I am, Lord—laying my sins at your feet. Please forgive me, and blot out the stains of my disobedience. Lift the weight of my guilt, and silence the condemning voice of the enemy.
