For Attaining God’s Promises

GOD’S WORD IS THE ULTIMATE FAIL-PROOF PRAYER. Why? Because Scripture reflects God’s will. First John 5:14 reassures, “We are certain God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him” (CEV).

Praying God’s Word (by using Scripture to form our prayers) is like depositing a cashier’s check; it comes with special security features. While it’s possible for anyone to write a personal check, there’s no guarantee that it will be paid. But a cashier’s check is different. The funds are not only authorized, they’re assured. Similarly, when we pray God’s Word with faith, we’re guaranteed to receive what he has promised. John 15:7 promises, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”

When we run boldly to the throne of God, we can bank on biblical promises. For example, if we pray for peace (John 14:27), joy (John 15:11), and favor (Deuteronomy 28:13), we can receive even more than we ask (Ephesians 3:20).

STRENGTH IN THE WORD

No matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.

All of God’s promises belong to me.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

Please do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask, imagine, and think (Ephesians 3:20). When I pass through turbulent waters, be with me. When I walk through fire, don’t let me burn (Isaiah 43:2). I will not fear, for you are with me. You, my God, will give me strength and uphold me with your righteous hand (Isaiah 41:10).
