For Healing

WHEN IT COMES TO HEALING, many of us have our preferences. And to some extent, that’s okay. But we can’t pray, “Lord, heal my marriage (but I’m not willing to change); heal my body (but I’m still smoking and eating what I want); heal my finances (but I’m not downsizing or giving up this car).” Healing doesn’t work that way.

God sometimes works through the undesired and unexpected. In 2 Kings 5, Naaman protested being healed in the Jordan River, but that was God’s preferred way (verses 11-15). Moreover, Jesus healed the blind using three different methods: In Jericho, he simply spoke the words (Mark 10:52); in Jerusalem, he made mud with saliva (John 9:6); and in Bethsaida, he spat directly on the blind man’s eyes (Mark 8:23).

When you pray, God can heal whatever aspect of your life is aching. But you’ll have to receive your healing using his methods, under his conditions, and through his preferred way.

I am the LORD who heals you.

Because of Christ, healing and wholeness belong to me.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

Thank you for being a God who heals and a God who cares. Today, I submit to you everything that is aching in my life, and I yield to your preferred methods.

Please heal my body, and heal my mind.

Heal my finances, and heal my relationships.

Please reveal which actions I must take—to receive healing.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
