Surprised With Care

care - Surprised with Care

He cares for those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7, NIV

The times when God has surprised me (Teresa) with His loving care have been some of my greatest reasons for praise.

For example, I remember the time I lost a fifty-dollar bill in an airport. I was terribly distraught over losing what was to me a large sum of money. But the following week, in a completely different location, I found a fifty-dollar bill literally lying at my feet. There was absolutely no one around to claim it or any place to turn it in. Even though I had never asked the Lord to replace the money I had lost, I know God put that money there just to remind me of His watchful care.

Another example of this surprising care is the time when David and I took a trip to Africa, where we had the privilege of touring on a safari. I had always been fascinated with animals, so this particular trip was sheer pleasure for me. The tour guide for our safari explained in amazement that we were seeing animals on that trip that he had not seen in several years. We saw animals that even the National Geographic photographer had not seen in his twelve years of experience. I never thought to ask the Lord for His abundant provision on the safari. I think He just wanted to show me how much He cared for me. I was incredibly grateful.

Lord, help me to know my spouse’s needs and to meet them without being asked.

It feels good when someone cares enough to know what makes us happy and does it without being asked. Those can be some of the more blessed moments in marriage.

Ask yourself what would make your spouse feel cared for and loved. What would keep you from doing that very thing today?

What could you do today—without being asked—that would let your spouse know that you care genuinely and deeply?
