Christ Needed To Be Led?
leadership - Christ Needed to Be Led?
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit. Luke 4:1
Christ being led? What a mystery! The perfect God-man modeled life in the Spirit, showing that He did nothing of His own initiative. Christ modeled for us the humility that is necessary to live the Christian life. He showed us that even He needed to wait before the Father in order to be led. Even He needed to hear from the Spirit and yield to the Father’s plans.
If Christ needed to yield Himself to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, then I certainly do.
Father, thank You that You do have a plan for my life and my marriage. May I diligently seek after that plan.
There are times when I (David) struggle with knowing what my wife needs. She seems so different from me that my own fear of inadequacy hinders me from giving to her. There have been situations where I’ve literally sat back and scratched my head, having no clue how to meet her needs. It’s at those times that I have needed to ask for the Lord’s leadership. I’ve needed to be led by His Spirit. Day by day I need Him to lead me into wisdom and grace so that I can live out His plan to love my wife as Christ loved the church.
Unfortunately, I often forget about God’s available leadership and try to figure things out on my own. I call upon my own “wisdom” and training to get me out of conflicts with Teresa. Instead of calling upon the One who authored the whole idea of marriage, I try to tough it out myself. When I do that, I make a mess of things. But the Lord has been gracious, and when I take the time to seek out His leadership, He always provides. He always shows me exactly what Teresa needs and how I can meet that need.
In what areas of your life do you need to yield to God’s leadership?
