God’s Word Helps You Remember
God’s Word Helps You Remember
Breathe Deep and Know: Filling your heart with God’s Word is a powerful source of comfort and strength.
So many of my own struggles start with the act of forgetting what God has already done for me. Ann Voskamp calls it “soul amnesia,” and I’m afraid I have a chronic case. I let my emotions cloud out the truth; I let my fears overshadow His promises; I let the lingering storms of my life cause me to doubt His goodness and love. Can you relate?
The remedy for this kind of “soul amnesia” is the intentional act of remembering. We do this by hiding the Word of God in our hearts so we don’t forget the truth, so we can honor Him with the way we walk through our days and the way we handle the storms of this life. We memorize Scripture to remember the good He has done and the grace He has given. God’s Word helps us remember to get on our knees, to open His Word, to praise His name, to repent of our sins, to look for the good, to count His gifts, and to trust His promises.
The act of memorizing carves strong neural pathways in our brains, making it easier to remember God’s promises in times of stress or suffering. If you want to begin hiding God’s Word in your heart, the breath prayers in this book may be a great place to start!
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11

WITH YOUR WORD.
