God Is Hemming You In

Breathe Deep and Know: You can choose to be present and grateful in this moment, knowing that God is with you and is hemming you in every step of the way.

The NIV translates Psalm 139:5 as, “You hem me in behind and before.” I love that visual, of God hemming me in, holding me securely, keeping me right in the middle of his presence as He surrounds me all along the way. As a seamstress carefully hems the frayed edges of a garment, God carefully gathers all my frayed edges and tucks me between the threads of His love. His hemming is secure and will never unravel, holding me together every day of my life.

Nothing behind you is beyond God’s power to redeem, and nothing ahead of you takes Him by surprise. He knows what has been and what is to come. Sometimes just remembering that truth can ease your worries and remind you to rest in Him.

You may not know what’s before you, but you know the One who has already been there. You can’t do anything about what’s behind you, but you can trust the One who is with you, the One who is going before you and following you, the One who is working all things together for your good and for His glory.
