Worry

Worry

The English word worry comes from a root word that means “to strangle or seize by the throat.” I wish I could tell you I’ve never felt the stranglehold of worry. But that would be a lie. Are you a worrier, mom? Do you allow the enemy to seize you by the throat and strangle you? When we’re being strangled, we can’t praise God, we can’t talk to God, we can’t have a much-needed discussion with our husband. We lose our voice when we become strangled by fear. But the Bible says we can’t add even a single day to our lives by worrying. To worry is to allow the enemy to silence us. In many ways, Satan’s oldest lie was a temptation to worry. Even in the Garden of Eden, Satan’s lie was simple: “You can’t trust God. He doesn’t have your best interests at heart. He’s not going to do what’s best for you.” And isn’t that the root of worry? We don’t trust God. We don’t believe He has our best interests at heart. We can’t hand our concerns to Him, and we can’t believe He’ll do what’s best. Worry is a symptom; lack of faith is the disease.

Whenever I find myself worrying, I remind myself of God’s goodness and of His provision in times past. He has never failed me. He knows what is best, and He is working for my good. Stop worrying, mom. Get your voice back to speak hope and faith, to sing God’s praises, and to speak life to your family. They need your steadying voice during times of trial.

WHEN MOTHERHOOD SEEMS TOO HARD . . .

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

WHEN YOU NEED SUPERNATURAL RELIEF FROM YOUR WORRIES . . .

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

1 Peter 5:7

WHEN YOU WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE . . .

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11
