Overwhelmed
Overwhelmed
Have you ever felt like you were going under again and again, submerged beneath the endless responsibilities of a mother’s life? I have. To be overwhelmed means literally to be “thrown over, turned upside down and submerged completely.” Can you relate, mom? We can be overwhelmed by our fears, our responsibilities, or the uncertainty of the future. But my God promises He will not give me more than I can bear. He promises that, like Peter, I can choose to keep my eyes on Him and rise above my circumstances and walk on the water that seeks to submerge me. Whenever I put my eyes on myself or my to-do list or my calendar or my checkbook, I can begin to go under. Look up, mom! Look up to the One who calls us to be overcomers. Like our children, we get to choose: we can be overwhelmed by life or be an overcomer. It all comes down to where we look.
WHEN YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN NEED A DRINK OF LIVING WATER . . .
O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water.
WHEN YOU’RE OVERWHELMED BY FEAR . . .
In my distress I prayed to the LORD,
and the LORD answered me and set me free.
The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me?
WHEN YOU NEED TO TURN TO GOD DAILY . . .
Praise the Lord; praise God our savior!
For each day he carries us in his arms.
WHEN YOUR EYES NEED TO SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE . . .
We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
