Mercy
Mercy
My husband was still snoring softly as the darkness faded into light. I rubbed my eyes and looked around our bedroom. I sat up slowly in bed, remembering the harsh words I had spoken to my son less than eight hours before when I reminded him for the third time that he was supposed to be studying his algebra instead of talking on his phone. I regretted that my words had betrayed my frustration. But as I flipped open my Bible, my eyes fell on these words in Lamentations 3:22-23: “His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning” (ESV). Before the sun had even risen, I chose to accept God’s mercy. I can forgive myself for harsh words spoken, and I can extend that same mercy to those around me who may not make the best choices today. The Latin word merces means “the price paid for something.” Jesus paid the price. I am free to accept or reject His mercy in my life today. Strong moms humbly accept God’s mercy and in turn extend it freely to others. We serve the God of mercy. The price has been paid.
WHEN YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO UNDERSTAND MERCY . . .
Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: “I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.” For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.
WHEN YOU NEED TO BE REMINDED OF GOD’S MERCY FOR MOTHERS . . .
Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
