She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”

Matthew 9:21

She had been bleeding for twelve years, yet those long years had not deadened her faith. Undoubtedly anemic and weak, labeled unclean by her people, and isolated from society for more than a decade, she nevertheless approached Jesus. Destitute after spending all her money on doctors who did nothing to help her, and utterly desperate, she was banking on this itinerant Rabbi.

She didn’t even consider herself worthy to touch his skin. Nevertheless—and as weak as she was—she moved toward Jesus and touched the fringe of his cloak.

Instantly, the flow of blood stopped. Instant health. Instant relief. Instant community. Jesus restored her. Instant joy.

And this can happen to you today. Whatever has you feeling desperate, dare to be like this woman and reach out for Jesus. Your desperation invites Jesus’ presence, restoration, and healing.

Lord, I am tired and needy. I reach out for you today. Hear my desperate prayer, amen.
