Beautiful Word Devotional #6
You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
2 Corinthians 8:9
Imagine being one of the world’s billionaires. Anything you wanted you could have. And then imagine giving it all up for the sake of your child because an evil genius has kidnapped him or her and demanded your fortune.
People trump riches. Human beings are priceless and irreplaceable. This is why Jesus Christ, who ruled in heaven undoubtedly with riches and glory aplenty, chose to leave all that splendor and enter into our dirt-stained world. Because he sees us as worth fighting for.
Jesus gave up wealth. He became poor so that he could make a way for you to be in a rich, life-giving relationship with him. His choice of poverty opened up a treasure trove of wealth for you—a life rich in purpose and hope and grace and power. Your Savior sacrificed all that for you—his child whom he deeply loves.
Lord, I am stunned by your love for me. Thank you for leaving heaven to rescue me from the consequences of my sin and a meaningless life, amen.
