Beautiful Word Devotional #56
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.”
Ezekiel 22:30
In this verse, God was speaking to the nation of Israel. The longing in his father-heart is evident: he wants to spare his people from destruction. Unfortunately no one was willing to stand in the gap and pray for the nation.
Jesus was the ultimate answer to God’s aching heart of love. Jesus stood in the gap between God’s holiness and our depravity.
And on the cross Jesus boldly bridged that gap, dying in your place and welcoming you to a relationship with God.
This eternal plan of divine and immeasurable grace is almost too much to fathom—this God who answers his own pleas for his people. He became the means for rescue. For your rescue.
Rest on that truth today: Jesus stands in the gap for you. The cross was the bridge, and he loves you enough to bear the nails.
Lord Jesus, thank you for standing in the gap for me with your very life. I needed to remember that today, amen.
