Beautiful Word Devotional #48

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”

John 14:2

We are vagabonds on this earth, roaming, moving, looking for a place to call home. An entire industry (HGTV, anyone?) has flourished because of this very real desire. Whether you’ve moved around or stayed put, the truth remains: we long to feel at home.

So to hear that Jesus fully understands this longing is great news. He knows that we were made for a specific person and a specific place. As author Randy Alcorn says, God is that Person, and heaven is that place. As you sojourn on this earth, Jesus is fashioning the perfect place for you—one that fits every desire and need for beauty.

When we get close to death, one of the things we wrestle with is leaving our families, friends, and the places that are familiar to us. Yet the book of Revelation describes people, rivers, cities, meals, mountains—things we know on earth that will be Technicolor in heaven.

Lord, thank you that you’re creating a perfect place for me—and that this perfect place is with you, amen.
