Beautiful Word Devotional #364
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.
James 1:2
Sound impossible? Notice how J. B. Phillips translated this verse: “When all kinds of trials and temptations crowd into your lives my brothers, don’t resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends!” James later shared that trials and temptations make us stronger; they can be the catalyst for deep spiritual growth.
When facing trials, you must keep the long view in mind. Think back on your life. When have you grown the most? The truth is, we grow through trials. That’s why J. B. Phillips advised us to welcome them as friends.
Seeing trials as intruders can make us resentful. Instead, receive them as pathways to new life, perspective, and wisdom.
This doesn’t mean you can’t have emotions about your trials. Absolutely acknowledge the painful place you’re in even as you ask God to enable you to welcome that trial as a companion.
Lord, help me to welcome each trial you allow as a friend. Help me keep the long view in mind, that you are using this trial to grow me, amen.
