Beautiful Word Devotional #319

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Proverbs 16:9

We use the brains God gave us to figure out the best course of action for enriching our relationships, furthering our careers, and benefitting our families. But sometimes, even with our most prayerful planning and the wisest of counsel, we find out that our plans aren’t the same as God’s, as the several holy redirects he does along the way indicate!

Why does God redirect us? Because he loves us. He actually shows us his love and his kindness by changing our path and then establishing our steps. He helps us to see our wrong thinking and teaches us to make kingdom choices instead of selfish ones. And, as the Author of history, God oversees its unfolding and even allows us to participate in his redemption of the human race.

Back to the plans you make. Have you ever realized you were walking down the wrong route? Don’t worry, because nothing you do can mess up God’s ultimate plan.

Lord, thank you that—in your infinite wisdom and love—you guide my steps according to your good plans for me, amen.
