Beautiful Word Devotional #312

Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

1 Corinthians 10:14

Living in idolatry means living for lesser gods than the one true God of the Bible. A lesser god is anything that is not God, anything that takes your affection and attention away from him.

We worship anything but God. Wealth, fame, possessions, the American Dream, relationships, youth, perfect health, physical appearance—any and all of these can too easily push God from his rightful place of prominence in our lives.

So how do we flee from idolatry? By worshipping Someone greater than what we have made an idol. By stopping the treadmill of life, ceasing to pursue success at any cost and thereby giving ourselves space to worship God alone. By listing God’s attributes and praising him for all those and more, for being kind, holy, loving, wise, beautiful, powerful, and strong. By remembering his faithfulness, bowing down before him, and singing songs of adoration.

You have the opportunity today to turn away from idols once and for all and to wholeheartedly commit to following after God. Oh, how he loves you and longs for your full devotion!

Lord, I choose to worship you and you alone, amen.
