Beautiful Word Devotional #310

Being in anguish, [Jesus] prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Luke 22:44

Here we see that Jesus shed his blood for us even before he was nailed to the cross. Notice what caused Jesus’ bleeding: he revealed his anguish as he carried out the Father’s plan, which meant excruciating suffering and carrying the weight of every sin upon himself.

Because of his love for the human beings God and he had crafted, Jesus chose to suffer. He yielded his will to the will of the Father, let himself be crucified, and then rose from the dead. And now, seated at the right hand of God, the resurrected Jesus prays for you who love him!

Lord, I’m humbled that you chose pain and suffering for my sake, amen.
