Beautiful Word Devotional #282

The LORD says, “During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.”

Deuteronomy 29:5

In today’s verse the Lord reminded Moses of his extravagant provision during the Israelites’ forty-year wandering after they left Egypt. Constantly in the Old Testament, God encouraged the nation of Israel to remember his great faithfulness in guiding, protecting, and providing for them.

God called the people to look back because—like you and me—they were prone to forget about their faithful God’s power and provision. Even immediately after the miraculous deliverance from Pharaoh and the amazing crossing of the Red Sea, the Israelites grumbled and panicked.

And we aren’t very different from Israel. God longs for you to remember details of his faithfulness to you. When you do this, your trust muscle will grow. So take some time today to remember God’s faithfulness to you and thank him for his kindness.

Lord, I am going to start right now to list the ways you have been faithful to me over the years. Use this list, I pray, to improve my memory and to help me to live with gratitude for your goodness, amen.
