Beautiful Word Devotional #272
The LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence.”
Exodus 33:19
What must it have been like for Moses to have God’s goodness pass in front of him? Was he terrified? Amazed? Silenced and in awe?
Not only did Moses see God in a way no one ever had, but earlier he had also heard God speak his own name.
What can you and I do to foster that kind of intimacy with God? Two words come to mind: availability and submission.
Moses spent time with God. As he led the nation of Israel through the wilderness, Moses knew he needed to rely on God for guidance, so Moses made himself available to his Lord. Then, after listening carefully to God’s instructions, Moses submitted himself to the Lord: Moses chose to obey the Almighty.
Like Moses, you can experience greater intimacy with God when you make yourself available to him and then choose to submit to his guidance and will.
Lord, I want to walk more closely to you. Thank you for teaching me that availability and submission are key, amen.
