Beautiful Word Devotional #265

Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.”

Genesis 17:3–4

It’s not often we see patriarchs lying prostrate before someone. But here we see Abram’s awe of the God who called him. In God’s presence, all Abram could do was prostrate himself as God spoke miraculous words over him. Not only would Abram have a child, but this child would one day be a nation that would give birth to many nations.

In light of such a forecast for his future, you might think Abram would be wrestling with pride. But instead of reveling in God’s surprising words, Abram’s response was to fall on his face and worship.

You may be facing what seems like an impossible situation. Take heart! Remember that you serve the God of the impossible. Whether or not he delivers you from your situation when and how you’d like him to, choose to worship him, preferring his presence with you over his presents to you.

Lord, may your goodness and your good promises to me prompt me to worship you as Abram did, amen.
