Beautiful Word Devotional #240

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

What an amazing promise! God comes near not to people who have it all together, not to those who always succeed, not to those whose hearts have never been broken. No, God comes close to those whose hearts are broken and whose spirits have been crushed by the weight of the world, the unfairness of life, or the very people they trusted.

God doesn’t leave us alone in our loneliness. He isn’t afraid of our pain. He doesn’t try to say words to make it right, and he can handle our being angry at him. God draws near to us when we are hurting.

And in this fallen world populated by sinners, we can’t avoid getting hurt. But God draws near to the brokenhearted. He will hold your hand while you’re walking through the fire. He will be with you as you face relational heartache, physical pain, or worry about the future. He will come near. All you need to do is call upon him.

Lord, I’m so very grateful that you come near, that you don’t leave me alone when I need you, amen.
