Beautiful Word Devotional #225
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
What a marvelous promise! When we confess, God forgives and cleanses!
The context of this promise is John’s statement that “God is light” (v. 5). We can enter that light—we can enjoy fellowship with our holy God—only if we have been cleansed of our sin. And we can be cleansed of our sin only if we confess it to God.
What can also help forgiveness be more real is to confess your sins to a fellow Christian whom you trust. Bringing that darkness into the light is what God instructs for your good—and then to receive a hug from the friend who still loves you after the confession is to taste God’s unconditional love.
So—as John instructed—confess your sin. When you do, you begin to be free of it. The enemy’s constantly nagging voice will be silenced, and God will continue his work to heal and restore.
Lord, please show me the sin I need to confess—and, when I need to, a safe person to confess my sin to, amen.
