Beautiful Word Devotional #19

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32

Imagine a mountain, its summit reaching into hazy clouds. Then look along the ground and look for a molehill—a small mound of dirt a mole dredged up.

Now consider this. Your sin against a holy God is taller than the tallest mountain. But the sin committed by one person against you? It’s the size of a molehill in comparison. Not that it doesn’t matter, or that it didn’t hurt (it did!), but in comparison to your mountain of sin against God, that sin against you is small.

That’s what Paul was talking about in this verse. Christ has forgiven you a mountain of sin. If you truly believe that fact and are grateful for it, then you can consider your friend or family member’s sin against you a small molehill by comparison. Ask God to help you respond to that person with the same compassion and forgiveness you’ve already received from him. You’ve been loved and forgiven much. Now you have an opportunity to extend the same love and forgiveness to others.

Lord, help me to visualize my mountain of sin when I have an opportunity to forgive a molehill, amen.
