Beautiful Word Devotional #116

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Isaiah 26:3

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines steadfast as being “very devoted or loyal to a person, belief, or cause.” It also means to be unchanging in our commitment. The Hebrew word for that kind of covenantal, longsuffering love is hesed. God not only models both hesed and steadfastness, but he wants us to become steadfast in our devotion to him. He isn’t asking from us, though, what he hasn’t already demonstrated for us and extended to us.

When we practice steadfastness in our love for God we please him. We also find ourselves in a place to be blessed with God’s peace, with his shalom. This kind of peace is complete: it is knowing peace in our bodies, our minds, our spirits, and our hearts.

One more thing. The last word in today’s verse is trust. We honor God when we trust him. So whatever you are facing today, you can choose to trust Him. Shalom.

Lord, strengthen my devotion to you, keep me steadfast in my commitment, and bless me, I pray, with your perfect peace, amen.
