I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.

Ephesians 3:16

Imagine running a five-mile race. At the mile marker that reads “4.5,” your leg starts to cramp, and you slow to a walk. Soon, with the cramp tightening up, you can barely walk. You can see the finish line, but you realize the only way you’ll get there is by crawling. When you cry out, your best friend spies you from the finish line. She sprints toward you, pulls your arm around her shoulders, and acts as your other leg. Together, with her strength supporting your disappearing strength, you cross the finish line.

That’s a picture of what God wants to do in your life today. He doesn’t want you to crawl through life. Instead he wants you to cry out, to ask for help. Then you can know the “power through his Spirit in your inner being.” Your Almighty God will walk with you and support you, empowering you to live the kind of life that testifies to his strength.

Lord, when I am weak, I realize I need to find strength in you. Teach me to live in your strength, amen.
